Refugee passport
A refugee passport is a travel document for people who are recognised as refugees in the Netherlands. It is also proof of identity. With this passport you can travel to all countries, except your country of origin.
A refugee passport can be applied for by making an appointment.

- You have a residence permit (type III, IV or V);
- You are recognised as a refugee by the United Nations (UN) and the IND;
- You are registered in the Municipal Personal Records Database (BRP) of Alkmaar.
A refugee passport is valid for a maximum of 5 years. The exact validity period depends on your residence status.
- You have to come yourself;
- All passports and identity cards you still have, even if they have expired;
- A valid resident permit;
- 1 recent colour passport photo
- no older than 6 months
- meets the passport photo requirements;
- Your debit card. You pay directly at the request;
Below the age of 18?
Please also bring:
- A completed consent form for minors with the signatures of both your parents (or the person who has authority over you);
- ID of both parents (or from the person who has authority over you).
The passport costs € 65,70. In case of an urgent request there will be an extra charge of € 59,10.
After one week you can collect your passport. Please note: Do not forget to bring all passports and identity cards you have with you, even if they have expired (and not yet invalidated).
Please call 14 072 of 0031 72 548 8888 for an urgent request. Apply for a travel document before noon during opening hours. You will usually be able to collect it the next working day. Please note that Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays are not working days. Passports are not provided on these days.
